Hi, I’m Sophie Miller.

Nekomancer Stitches combines my two passions - needlework inspired by biology and the natural world, and my long academic journey bringing to life the narratives of the long dead.

When I was about nine years old, my mother Sally taught me needleworking. In 2019, during the ten-year anniversary of her passing, I decided to honour her memory by picking up my needlework again. During the pandemic, this practise became my peace and I want to share this with the world. I have several graduate degrees in archaeology and ancient history, looking at human antiquity, the history of human-animal relationships, and ancient cats, and I use these experiences to create artwork that would not be out of place in an 18th century Cabinet of Curiosities. I hope you too can find an oddity for your shelf.

My Approach

After much enthusiastic encouragement from the people in my life, I launched Nekomancer Stitches, a very small business offering embroidery pieces for purchase along with personalised designs and creations. Rarely will these designs be repeated, and I do not repeat custom-made and commissioned artwork.
